Work for a Better World

God is personal but never private. - Jim Wallis, God's Politics
stocked pantry shelves
Christ Church United Methodist, in a partnership with Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Shomrei Torah, distributes food to residents in need in Rincon and Bennett Valleys every Thursday at 4PM right here from Elisha's Pantry. The Pantry served approximately 275 households per month. Elisha's Pantry receives food and fresh produce for distribution from Redwood Empire Food Bank. The Harvest for the Hungry Garden also provides fresh, organic produce for the Pantry. The fees paid by CCUM and others help the REFB provide food to a network of 147 non-profit and faith-based organizations in Sonoma County.

The Harvest for the Hungry Garden is located on the Christ Church campus on Yulupa Avenue.

The Harvest for the Hungry Garden raises money through an annual plant sale. The proceeds from this event supports charitable organizations. In addition,  the Harvest for the Hungry Garden all-volunteer labor force delivers organically grown produce each week to four local hunger programs: FISH of Santa Rosa, The Living Room (drop-in center for homeless women and children), Elisha's Pantry, Bethlehem Towers (low income senior housing), and the Food For Thought AIDS Food Bank. Master Gardeners also provide workshops for the community.

The primary purpose of Christ Methodist Preschool is to encourage children to be self-reliant and cooperative as they develop in this phase of their life. We all want children who feel valued and are willing to be generous with others.

The program at Christ Methodist Preschool provides an environment of free choice, exploration, and discovery. Activities chosen foster curiosity, creativity, and develop large and small motor skills.

Providing a place for community groups to meet has always been important to CCUM. Multiple groups of Alcoholics Anonymous and Overeaters Anonymous meet here, as well as an Al-Anon group, and a Parkinson's support group. Call the church office at 542-2569 for meeting times.
